Craig Richards vs Dan Azeez – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

Published:

In a unique event in Accra, Ghana this Saturday, British rivals Craig Richards and Dan Azeez clash in a 12-round light heavyweight main event at Legon Sports Stadium.

Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom promote Richards vs Azeez and DAZN televise live worldwide.

Richards (19-4-1, 12 KOs) has had a solid career, becoming British champion before acquitting himself well in a late-notice WBA world title points loss to Dmitry Bivol in 2021.

‘Spider’ would lose on the cards to Joshua Buatsi in 2022, and again in a thriller on points to Willy Hutchinson in June 2024 in Riyadh, but is coming into this off the back of a win, knocking out Padraig McCrory in eight in Belfast in March.

Azeez (22-2-1, 14 KOs) has seen his career stall somewhat in recent times.

Wins against Hosea Burton, Shakan Pitters, Rocky Fielding and Thomas Faure brought British, Commonwealth and European belts, but a move to world level didn’t materialise, with Buatsi taking a clear points win to hand the 36-year-old a first defeat last February.

The comeback was a disastrous one, as first Azeez was held to a surprise draw by Hrvoje Sep and he then dropped a majority decision to Lewis Edmondson in October 2024.

The Londoner has won twice since at low-key level, the last in Nigeria in October.

Prediction: This could be a really close contest, but I favour Richards to get the better of a razor-thin decision win.

Macbones meets Tetteh

Light heavyweight prospect, Freezy Macbones (11-0, 10 KOs) can win early against fellow unbeaten Jonathan Tetteh (10-0, 10 KOs).

The pair meet over eight rounds.

Remaining Undercard

The other 12-rounder on the card should see Theophilous Kpakpo Allotey (12-0, 10 KOs) take the vacant WBO Global super flyweight title, by outscoring Jayr Raquinel (18-2-1, 14 KOs) over the championship distance.

Ibrahima Diallo (12-0-2, 2 KOs) can claim the vacant IBF International super welterweight title in the sole 10-rounder, likely on the cards against Sampson Segbedzi (10-0, 7 KOs).

In eight-rounders, Holy Dorgbetor (14-1-1, 8 KOs) can defend his IBF African featherweight title inside the distance against John Laryea (15-0-1, 11 KOs) and Jesse Brandon (5-0, 1 KO) can outpoint Jerry Lartey (7-0-1, 5 KOs) at super lightweight.

Sedem Ama (4-0, 1 KOs) can win on points in her meeting with Chiamaka Nwaturuocha (3-0, 3 KOs).

The only six-rounder is at welterweight, where Nishant Dev (4-0, 2 KOs) can stop Ally Mbukwa (8-5, 2 KOs) and in the only four-rounder, Leo Atang (2-0, 2 KOs) can stop Babu Yusuf (3-0, 1 KO) in their heavyweight contest.
