Flyweight fighter Aaron Tau attempted to cheat during UFC 325’s weigh ins early Friday morning (Jan. 30, 2026), but ultimately got caught and saw his undercard fight get canceled. Now Tau has to apologize for his wrongdoings.

Tau, who failed on his first attempt to get into UFC after losing on Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2024, was hoping to punch his ticket to the promotion this weekend by winning the Road to UFC finale. The New Zealand prospect had turned in back-to-back wins during the competition and looked ready to finally live up to his billing and become the next fighter from City Kickboxing to make it into UFC.

Unfortunately, Tau couldn’t even get to Saturday night. That’s because the 32-year-old fighter completely botched his official weigh-in on Friday. Tau first tried to take a page out of Daniel Cormier’s book by leaning on the privacy box to take a few pounds off, but his weight of 122.5 sparked some concern. The commission then had Tau weigh in again without the privacy box and he ended up tipping the scale at 129 pounds, which is well over the flyweight limit.

As a result, Tau’s matchup opposite Namsrai Batbayar was yanked from UFC 325’s card.

Late Friday night, Tau took to social media to issue an official apology for his incredibly embarrassing display of professionalism at the weigh ins. Tau didn’t offer up any excuses which is good, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that he didn’t do his job.

Check it out below:

“I need to apologize to my opponent, the UFC, my team, and my fans. Though I pushed to the end, I have one job, to make weight and fight. I didn’t do that. I’m sorry,” Tau wrote via Instagram.

UFC 325 will go down later tonight (Sat., Jan. 31, 2026) LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. It will feature a main event rematch between UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and top contender Diego Lopes.
