Jonathan Micallef pushed his Octagon record to 2-0 earlier tonight (Sat., Jan. 31, 2026) at UFC 325 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, stopping welterweight Oban Elliott with a comeback second-round submission (rear-naked choke).

Elliott, who came into Saturday as a betting underdog, was out for blood from the opening bell. Apparently there’s some sort of hatred for Micallef that carried over into the cage and fueled Elliott to jump out to a strong lead. Micallef just wasn’t able to get going on the feet and resembled little of what he looked like in his UFC debut nearly one year ago.

Things kept going wrong for Micallef in the second round as Elliott’s hands starting landing more often. Elliott eventually hurt Micallef on the feet and could have gone for a knockout finish. Instead, he decided to stay in the clinch along the cage, which allowed Micallef the chance to reverse and score a nice takedown. From there, Micallef quickly locked up a tight rear-naked choke and eventually put Elliott to sleep.
