Naoya Inoue vs. Alan Picasso fight recap

Naoya Inoue (32-0, 27 KOs) defeated Alan Picasso (32-1-1, 17 KOs) with relative ease via unanimous decision.

Scores were 120-108, 119-109, and 117-111. Inoue remains the undisputed super bantamweight world champion with the victory. This was the sixth defence of his undisputed status since defeating Marlon Tapales for it in 2023.

The opening round saw both men standing at range and feinting plenty. Inoue picked up the pace early in the second and Picasso found himself struggling to respond. The challenger was missing on a number of his punches.

Inoue was constantly looking for the shots that would get him the stoppage and he threw a variety of punches in the hopes of doing so. Picasso, to his credit, stood in front of the undisputed champion and took those shots. However, there was little he could do with Inoue’s superior speed and accuracy. The Japanese fighter was dominating each round with ease.

Picasso threw the kitchen sink in the final round. That approach gave him some success as he was able to land clean, hard left hooks to the head. They did not seem to bother Inoue who responded with even harder punches to the body. Despite Picasso’s best efforts, it was not enough to get his hand raised.

Undercard results

Junto Nakatani (32-0, 24 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Sebastián Hernández (20-1, 18 KOs). Scores for their 12-round super bantamweight fight were 118-110 and 115-113 (x2). Nakatani had little trouble landing in the early rounds. However, Hernández eventually picked up the tempo and made things difficult for his opponent. The 118-110 scorecard will be hard to explain as one could argue that the Mexican won the bout. That score is simply not a reflection of how things played out.

Eridson Garcia (23-1, 14 KOs) won a split decision against Taiga Imanaga (9-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight clash. Although one judge had the action 95-94 for Imanaga, the other two saw it 96-93 and 95-94 for Garcia. Although the Japanese fighter began the fight well, his opponent took over in the second half. Imanaga was knocked down in round eight following a right hook to the head.

Opening the broadcast on DAZN, Reito Tsutsumi (4-0, 3 KOs) won via fourth round technical knockout against Leobardo Quintana (12-2, 5 KOs). The official time of stoppage for this eight-round super featherweight contest was 1:14. Quintana was dropped in the fourth after being hit with a left hook upstairs followed by two right hooks to the head. Although he got up before the count of 10, the referee deemed him to be in no position to continue and put an end to proceedings.
