Deontay Wilder reveals his 2026 plans

Published:

Former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder has opened the door to a 2026 showdown with Derek Chisora.

Chisora and Wilder shared a heated face off in Dubai a couple of weeks ago.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ has been back in the headlines over the past few weeks with multiple possible opponents mentioned.

He spoke to The Cigar Talk Podcast about the possibility of a fight ‘Del Boy’ in the new year.

“That’s real. That could be a real fight.

“I love that because Derek, if you know Derek and you’re a fan of Derek, you know he’s not a pushover.

“You’re not gonna bully him, you feel me? The mentality that he has, he has an alpha male mentality, and when you go up against another alpha male, it’s a problem.”

Wilder was last in action in June.

He fought Tyrell Herndon [24-5] and stopped him in the seventh round in a pretty uninspiring showing.

With Chisora looking for an opponent for his 50th fight, a clash with Wilder may make sense with both men interested.

Wilder has also been rumoured to face two-time heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk after he showed interest in a fight.

Speaking to IBA Boxing ‘The Bronze Bomber’ gave his thoughts on a fight with ‘The Cat.’

“It was sweet music to my ears,” the 40-year-old told IBA Boxing.

“It’s a blessing for me to be honest, because I never get opportunities.

“But when I look at this opportunity I’m like ‘wow’.

“Just the excitement it’s drawn for boxing fans has been amazing and I don’t doubt that it’s not going to happen.

“Especially at this time of negotiations, it’s looking very promising.

“This is something that I need.”

He also provided an update and confirmed that negotiations are ongoing.

“I’m looking forward to it.

“Hopefully negotiations go just as smoothly as it’s going now.

“Everything is agreed upon fairly.

“I’m sorry but the world will see and the new.”

With fights against both Usyk and Chisora on the cards Wilder revealed how he would want his 2026 to play out.

Chisora was originally touted to face Dillian Whyte but negotiations broke down despite the pair facing off on the Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley broadcast.

“I was like you know what, let him be the warm up to the Usyk fight.”
