The champ is here! Zuffa Boxing awards first diamond-encrusted belt — but not to an actual boxer

Published:

Zuffa Boxing has awarded its first-ever championship belt.

That might come as a surprise since the cruiserweight title fight between Jai Opetaia and Brandon Glanton doesn’t take place until March 8 atop Zuffa Boxing 04 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Promotion co-founder Turki Al-Sheikh was gifted the diamond-encrusted strap and the feedback was so brutal, he was forced to close the comment section on his X post.

Shhhhh … don’t tell Jon Jones!

Not to be outdone, World Boxing Council (WBC) created its own WBC Main Event world championship chain and pendant, to be awarded exclusively to WBC world champions competing in designated headliners. No word yet on whether or not this new piece of bling will come with a sanctioning fee like the WBC title.

It carries an “estimated retail value” of $40,000.

I prefer the WAMMA ring.
