Jake Paul knocked out of WBA rankings following jaw-breaking loss to Anthony Joshua in Miami

Published:

Jake Paul was ranked No. 14 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) following his pay-per-view (PPV) victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last June in Anaheim and on paper, was eligible to score a cruiserweight title shot. Instead, “El Gallo” continued his freak show fights with a heavyweight mismatch opposite Anthony Joshua on Dec. 19 in Miami.

Paul was annihilated in the sixth-round, suffering a broken jaw in the process.

Not surprisingly, the 28 year-old Paul 12-2 (7 KOs) was dropped from the WBA rankings in last week’s official update. Replacing Paul in the No. 14 slot is Australia’s Liam “The Mechanic” Callanan, with Bosnia’s Edin “Iron Puki” Puhalo rounding out the Top 15. The current WBA cruiserweight champion is Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez from Mexico, who also holds the WBO strap.

Paul appears unfazed by the latest rankings update (likely because of this).
