Conor McGregor recently complained that the UFC was offering him a ‘no name’ for his highly anticipated comeback fight, which “The Notorious” would like to take place on the June White House card.
“It’s a no name up next for me possibly, folks,” McGregor tweeted and then deleted over the weekend. “And as you know, idgaf. I ACCEPT. Send the contract, lads.”
McGregor followed that up the next day with another frustrated tweet. “Day 15 of ‘I accept, send the contract.’” he wrote. When a fan wrote “Conor vs. Chandler or nothing,” McGregor replied “It should be that, yes.”
We don’t know what’s going on between UFC and McGregor as we approach the 5 year mark since his last fight. But we do have comments from rising welterweight contender Carlos Prates, who currently sits at No. 5 in the 170 pound rankings. Somehow, Prates became the leading guess people had for McGregor’s “no name.” He addressed the speculation on a new MMA HOJE podcast.
“People are just speculating,” Prates said. “But officially nothing has reached us yet. I just want to fight, man. Obviously, my main goal is a fight against Jack Della Maddalena, a guy that takes me to the belt. But we’re open to possibilities.”
Conor McGregor currently has two fights left on his UFC contract — a contract he’s previously suggested was void after the UFC shut down PPVs in America with their Paramount+ deal. Maybe McGregor is preparing to fight out that deal no matter what the terms and opponent. Or maybe a legal battle is brewing, and step one is getting the UFC to send him a contract with no remedy for the loss of pay-per-view profit that made McGregor the highest paid MMA fighter in history.
