Two-time UFC champion Julianna Pena is Venezuelan.
Over the years, the bantamweight “Vixen” watched her family in Venezuela suffer “horrific things” during the Nicolas Maduro regime. But now that United States, under the presidency of Donald Trump, has removed Maduro to initiate a “peaceful restoration of democracy in Venezuela,” Pena believes the long-suffering country will “finally be free.”
“I think that the majority, maybe 90 to 95 percent of Venezuelans are super stoked about this,” Pena said on Instagram. “They’re really excited and they’re happy. They are no longer going to be oppressed people and Venezuela will finally be free. Liberal snowflakes get upset over everything. A lot of people know that I’m in support of Trump, and that I’m more conservative leaning, you know, but some people will just find anything and any reason to be upset. Trump’s a man. That’s my president, and he’s here to make Venezuela great again.”

Pena stands in support of Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado.
“Maria Machado definitely should be the one taking that presidency,” Pena continued. “Everybody knows that Maduro was an illegitimate president. Nobody recognized him as the real president. His election was stolen. And he got in there just by fraud. Venezuela has been under oppression for many, many years. personally on my own personal side. I’ve had family that has gone through very serious, horrible, horrific things that you would never want to happen to anybody that you know. So I’m very happy for the people of Venezuela.”
Pena happy? Maybe she not living such a “terrible existence” after all.
The 36 year-old Pena (12-6) has not competed since her submission loss to Kayla Harrison at UFC 316 last June in New Jersey. Probably because of the “several injuries” she was dealing with during her last fight camp. As of this writing, the “Venezuelan Vixen” remains ranked at No. 1 in the women’s bantamweight division.
A timeline for Pena’s UFC return has yet to be determined.
