Karate Combat Heavyweight champion — and former UFC fighter — Sam Alvey faced off with terrifying Cuban knockout artist Robelis Despaigne at the conclusion of the Karate Combat 58 official weigh-ins this morning in Miami, Florida. The two collide tomorrow night in a championship main event that promises pure chaos.

IIn the co-main event, Morocco’s Oussama Assli meets James Honey for the KC Welterweight title. The card also features several familiar names, including Chris Barnettmaking his Karate Combat debut after his UFC releaseLorenz Larkin, and the always-entertaining Brandon Jenkins.

Watch the staredowns below:

Alvey enters the fight riding high after scoring an upset second-round knockout over kickboxing legend Tyrone Spong (watch highlights). He’s now 4-0-1 inside the Karate Combat pit and enjoying a career resurgence.

Despaigne, meanwhile, has lived up to his monstrous reputation, knocking out his first three KC opponents in a combined 30 seconds. He earned his title shot by running through a one-night Heavyweight tournament, defeating Saulo Cavalari, Tim Johnson, and Zac Pauga (watch highlights).

“Smilin’ Sam” knows he’s facing a mountain of a man — literally.

“This is a legacy kind of fight. When I’m old and grey and talking to my great-grandchildren, I’ll be able to tell them I beat Goliath. I literally beat a Goliath,” Alvey told MMAFighting. “I beat a man who is five or six inches taller than me with a reach that is 10 inches longer than mine. It’s crazy how long this man is. But they can say what they want — big tree, fall hard. I’ll make that happen.”

Karate Combat 58 will stream for free on YouTube on Fri., Dec. 5, 2025, right here.
