Jon Jones vs Gable Steveson wrestling video: ‘Bones’ stuns Olympian with trip takedown, gets topped anyway

Published:

Jon Jones is coaching Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson as the two-time NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion prepares for his career in mixed martial arts (MMA), with a transition to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) seemingly a foregone conclusion.

Assuming he doesn’t get bored and start mailing it in.

“Bones” can be seen wrestling with Steveson in the embedded video above, which comes directly from Steveson’s Instagram page. To his credit, the former UFC heavyweight champion landed a trip takedown on the one-time NFL hopeful, not that it did him any favors since Steveson ended up on top anyway.

Have a look:

Jones became the first fighter to out-wrestle Daniel Cormier in their UFC 182 title fight.

Speaking of Cormier, “DC” remains an outspoken critic of the pairing, claiming Jones could “slow him down.” In addition, retired UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub suggested a “wild boy” like Jones would be a bad influence on the 25 year-old wrestling phenom (can’t imagine why).

“This weekend improvements were made,“ Jones wrote on social media.

Steveson (2-0) returns against MexiCAN heavyweight Hugo “Pandemonium” Lezama (11-3) for Mexico Fight League on Feb. 19 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
