Deontay Wilder vs. Derek Chisora heavyweight showdown targeted for April on London

Published:

It looks like a potential title fight between Oleksandr Usyk — the current the WBA , WBC, IBO, The Ring and IBF heavyweight champion — and Deontay Wilder will have to wait, as The Ring is reporting that Wilder will have to get through Derek Chisora first. While no date is official, the report stated that the two heavyweights are in line to throw down in London sometime in April.

That explains this staredown.

Wilder (44-4-1) is coming off a seventh-round technical knockout (TKO) win over Tyrrell Anthony Herndon last year (highlights). Prior to that win “The Bronze Bomber” had gone 1-4 over his last five outings, with two of those defeats coming at the hands of Fury. The heavy-handed brawler took some time before coming back with a win. In late 2025, Usyk expressed his desire to face Wilder, though it didn’t make too much sense given the “The Bronze Bomber’s” recent struggles.

As for Chisora (36-13), he is currently riding a three-fight win streak and was last seen defeating Otto Wallin via unanimous decision. Chisora — the former WBA International heavyweight title — does share a few common opponents with Wilder, both losing to Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker. Chisora also has a loss to the aforementioned Usyk, as well. Given where both men are in their current careers the matchup makes sense. Plus, the winner could very well make a case for a shot at a heavyweight title since they still carry some name value.
