Former Anthony Joshua foe ACCEPTS Tyson Fury callout

Published:

Tyson Fury is seemingly looking at a fight with a former foe of Anthony Joshua.

Fury is set to make his return in April after coming out of retirement earlier this month and had been hopeful of securing a long-awaited clash with Joshua.

However, after Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash which took the lives of two of his close friends and team members, the Watford man’s future plans remain unknown.

Fury will look to bounce back from successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk when he returns to the ring and has been heavily linked with a showdown against Arslanbek Makhmudov, who overcame Dave Allen in October.

Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown confirmed to Pro Boxing Fans the Russian heavyweight is part of a shortlist to tackle ‘The Gypsy King’.

The 37-year-old though is seemingly keen on a showdown with former unified heavyweight world champion, Andy Ruiz Jr.

Ruiz Jr famously stunned Joshua on his US debut in 2019, knocking him out in the seventh round to capture the heavyweight championship, before losing his belts six months later in an immediate rematch.

Fury, who is training for his comeback in Thailand, posted a photo on his Instagram facing off with Ruiz and tagged the American in the post.

Ruiz, who has not fought since drawing with Jarrell Miller in August 2024, replied to the callout by saying: “Let’s go.”

Former cruiserweight world champion, Tony Bellew believes the 36-year-old would be an ideal opponent for the Morecambe man.

“I saw a list the other day of possible opponents for Tyson Fury,” Bellew told Fightlens.

“They said Agit Kabayel.

“Andy Ruiz would be a good comeback opponent.

“There was about five of them.”

Fury retired last January weeks after suffering a unanimous decision defeat to Usyk in their rematch, seven months after losing a majority decision to the Ukrainian in a bid for the undisputed championship.
