Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Jan. 24 clash. Below is some of what they had to say.

Raymond Muratalla vs. Andy Cruz press conference quotes

Raymond Muratalla

“Absolutely, absolutely ready,” said Muratalla. “All the hard work is done. I mean, being with Robert [Garcia, his trainer], just a lot of talented work there and just overall feel great and ready for Saturday.”

Exactly [this is a breakout fight]. I think that’s what I want. I want the big fights. Whatever happened, happened. It is what it is. I’m the champ so I’ll be defending my title Saturday and that’s what I want. I want to get past this so I can get bigger fights going.”

Andy Cruz

“What I’d like to say is that I was born for these types of events,” said Cruz through an interpreter. “I’ve said this a lot – that I was born for these events. Saturday, I get the chance to show this as well with actions. It’s an opportunity that’s come this way and look, I’m looking forward to take full advantage of it on Saturday night.”

“I think with every camp I go into, I’ve always been conscious of the fact that with each new fight comes a more difficult and more complex fight to deal with. So that’s been reflected in my camp. I think this camp has been really intense, really difficult, really strong. You know, it’s not been the exception this camp and it’s because I know I have a great opportunity on Saturday night to face Raymond Muratalla in what would be a really tough fight for me. So the camp’s been very intense and strong.

Fight prediction

As an amateur, Cruz was one of the most talented boxers in the world. He has won two gold medals at the Pan American Games, three gold medals at the World Championships, and is also an Olympic gold medalist. Expectations were high when he finally embarked on his professional boxing journey. Muratalla may have greater experience in the pros, but Cruz is simply better in all departments. Expect the Cuban to become a world champion via unanimous decision.
