Zuffa Boxing 1: Callum Walsh dominates, cruises to easy decision win over Carlos Ocampo at debut event

Published:

The big dogs are being saved for another day.

In the main event of the evening, one of Dana White’s most prized fighters, Callum Walsh, made his debut for the company in a Middleweight fight against Carlos Ocampo. And it didn’t take long for him to prove why the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) head honcho snatched him up and secured him to a long-term deal.

From the get-go, Walsh fired off punches in bunches, putting his foe on his heels. What ensued was a 10-round clinic from “King,” who was crisp and fluid with his technique all night. He did suffer the second knockdown of his career, however, after Ocampo punched him behind the shoulder in round six, causing him to slip forward which led to his gloves touching the canvas.

Visibly frustrated at the call to rule it a knockdown, Walsh came right back and proceeded to continue dictating the pace pf the fight. While he would have loved to get the finish it wasn’t to be this time around, though he did walk away with a clear-cut unanimous decision after dominating the entire fight.

With the win, Walsh improves to 17-0 in his Middleweight debut and proves he can headline a card, while Ocampo drops to 38-4 with his other three losses coming at the hand Tim Tszyu, Sebastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr. It may not have been the most exciting fight, but Walsh got off on the right foot in what will likely be a long partnership with Zuffa Boxing.
