Callum Simpson vs Troy Williamson – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

Published:

British, Commonwealth and European super middleweight champion Callum Simpson defends his belts in the main event against Troy Williamson at First Direct Arena in Leeds this Saturday.

Ben Shalom’s BOXXER promote Simpson vs Williamson and BBC Three televise worldwide.

Simpson (18-0, 13 KOs) has been one of the finds of the BOXXER stable and the 29-year-old picked up British and Commonwealth titles in August last year with an impressive points win against Zak Chelli.

Two early wins followed against Steed Woodall (TKO2) and Elvis Ahorgah (TKO5) in the first two months of 2025.

The Barnsley man was last out in June, surviving a huge scare against Ivan Zucco to take the vacant European crown.

Simpson was down twice, but rallied to drop the Italian three times on the way to a tenth-round stoppage win.

The rejuvenated Williamson (21-4-1, 15 KOs) comes next, and the man from Darlington has come back well from four defeats in five contests.

The game looked up for ‘The Trojan’ in April, as he travelled to Las Vegas only to be dropped twice on the way to a wide points loss to Jahi Tucker.

The 34-year-old got his career back on track in September, stopping English champion Mark Dickinson in nine.

Prediction: Simpson is the fresher of the two, and although Williamson is coming off a much-needed win, I lean towards Simpson getting the job done by late stoppage.

Cobbs clashes with Whale

A 10-rounder heads the undercard, as Blair Cobbs takes on Elliot Whale.

Cobbs (18-1-1, 11 KOs) has won three since losing to Alexis Rocha in 2022, including a win over the faded Adrien Broner, while Whale (12-0, 7 KOs) has never been past eight rounds, which he completed for the first time in a points win against Lucas Ballingall in April.

Prediction: Whale could well win this one in a close-run affair on the cards.

Remaining Undercard

The sole eight-rounder is at lightweight, where Frankie Stringer (10-0, 1 KO) should bank another points win, this time against Levi Giles (16-2-1, 4 KOs).

In six-rounders, Sam Hickey (3-0, 1 KO) should outscore Aljaz Venko (7-7-1, 3 KOs) at middleweight, and welterweight prospect Ashlee Eales (11-1, 3 KOs) should do the same against Jermaine Osbourne-Edwards (12-2, 1 KO) at welterweight.

Also at welterweight, Ellis Ward (5-0, 1 KO) can win the battle of unbeatens against Jake Jon Cleary (4-0) on the cards, and at middleweight, Tom Rafferty (15-0, 5 KOs) may need all six rounds to see off the experienced Grant Dennis (19-18, 3 KOs).

In four-round affairs, Mick Learmonth (13-0, 6 KOs) can outscore Harry Matthews (18-103-7, 2 KOs) at light heavyweight, and cruiserweight novice Bradley Casey (2-0, 1 KO) can also be a points winner against Dylan Courtney (2-26-2, 1 KO).

At super lightweight, Max Curtis (7-1, 1 KO) can outscore the winless Jacob Marrer (0-15), and at middleweight, Cory Sagar (4-0) can win on points against Joe Hardy (5-41-1).
