A Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson exhibition match is still in the works, but it won’t be happening on April 25th as planned.

That’s according to veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael, who shared an update on the fight via his socials.

“Been much discussion about the Mike Tyson – Floyd Mayweather exhibition taking place April 25 in Congo,” Rafael wrote. “But, per source with knowledge of the plans, it definitely won’t be that date. It will move to a later date and while it might be in Congo, no site is set.”

Tyson vs. Mayweather was announced in September, but details have continued to be sparse. It was only when “Iron Mike” re-confirmed the fight in mid-February that important details like a date and location started to be announced. Alas, it now looks like the date and location are not as locked in as previously expected.

For Mayweather, the Mike Tyson fight represents the start of a very busy 2026. He’s already lined up Tyson in April, another exhibition in June against kickboxer Mike Zambidis, and then a pro bout against Manny Pacquiao in September. That’s a lot of action for “Money,” who’s previous three-fight years were 2022 and 2005.

As for Mike Tyson, he seems less rushed when it comes to his plans for the year. As of now, all of his social media is focused on the Mike Tyson Invitational on March 12th to 14th, an amateur boxing competition. The only recent hint of the Mayweather fight: a February 19th post with the caption “Let’s get healthy again.”

Those who paid close attention to the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight will remember Tyson releasing a decent amount of training footage as he prepared for his comeback fight. A month and a half from April 25th, and we haven’t seen any of that, making this report from Dan Rafael not very surprising.

The delays on the Tyson fight could mess up Mayweather’s June fight with Zambidis in Athens, Greece.

“Floyd is contractually obligated to the Tyson even before he can do anything else,” Rafael added.

Given reports that Mayweather is feeling the financial crunch after years of extravagant living and questionable stewardship of his financial affairs, that could become a problem. We’ll keep you updated on the behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing on this fight as it continues to move from likely to unlikely and back.
