Further allegations have now emerged concerning both ATOS and Checkmat, with Ricardo Vieira being named specifically. Alyssa Mia was once a top child competitor representing Art of Jiu-Jitsu and she has alleged that an unnamed ATOS student s*xually assaulted her when she was just 12 years old. This comes in the wake of recent allegations that led to a massive exodus of ATOS coaches and competitors. At the time of writing, dozens of ATOS affiliate academies have either left or announced plans to leave in the near-future. Alexa Herse is the first to make her allegations against Andre Galvao public, but a recent statement by now-former ATOS black belt Rose Miller referenced ‘girls’ and said that she is ‘supporting them in sharing when they’re ready.‘

Mia reshared this recently and for the very first time, she decided to publicly name Ricardo Vieira. She also accused the parents of several young competitors at Art of Jiu-Jitsu, including the Ruotolo brothers’ mother, of ‘sl*t shaming’ her in statements made about her. Prior to 2020, AOJ was closely affiliated with ATOS and this alleged incident would be dated at around 2012 based on the timeline given by Mia. She states that she actually approached both Andre Galvao and Angelica Galvao with the information but ‘they did nothing to remove him, he stayed’. This is eerily similar to Herse’s claims of reporting her experiences to Angelica too.
