Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson will headline the “Ring 6” fight card on January 31 at Madison Square Garden, with Lopez’s (22-1, 13 KOs) lineal and WBO super lightweight titles on the line.
Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) is moving up in weight as the current WBC lightweight champion, a title he defended successfully against William Zepeda last time out. Ahead of January 31 live on DAZN Pay-Per-View, former multiple-weight world champion Mikey Garcia has looked ahead to fight night, discussing what Lopez should do to beat Shakur.
Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson – Mikey Garcia has his say
Discussing Lopez vs Stevenson:
“Great matchup, tough fight. I wanna see what Teofimo shows up, because sometimes it’s Teofimo the great fighter who beat Lomachenko, who beat Taylor. That’s a tough Teofimo.
“But then we’ve also seen him in off nights. And that’s the only doubt, the only question I have, you know, which Teofimo’s going to show up,” said Garcia.
When asked what Teofimo has to do to beat a fighter of Shakur Stevenson’s skills, Garcia said: “I would think, as Teofimo is technically a bigger fighter, bigger size, he’s been at the weight class a bit more. I would think he’d have to use that as an advantage.
“It’s hard to say, because Shakur Stevenson’s so f***ing good at what he does,” added Garcia.
