Henry Cejudo is not a fan of dirty Q-tips.
In fact, the former two-division champion is prepared to turn his back on UFC if the promotion allows Sean O’Malley to “chill” on the sidelines and wait for the winner of Petr Yan vs. Merab Dvalishvili 3, expected to take place at some point later this year.
Sitting out would avoid title eliminators against fellow contenders Umar Nurmagomedov and Cory Sandhagen; who like O’Malley, share real estate in the bantamweight Top 5.
O’Malley, who held the title for a little over a year, is coming off a decision win over Yadong Song at UFC 324.
This sound more like a personal beef than a grievance with UFC matchmaking, since Cejudo doesn’t seem to have a problem with Diego Lopes getting an immediate rematch against featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski atop the UFC 325 event this weekend in Australia.
Even if Lopes gets to unjustly leapfrog these two deserving contenders.
“It’s almost like Sean’s a little delusional,” Cejudo added. “He still thinks he’s a little bit of Conor (McGregor), where he wants to wait. ‘It’s alright, Merab’s got the next fight everybody.’ He really thinks he’s f—king slick as shit, because he is saying the truth. Merab really does deserve it with what he’s been able to do. ‘I’ll just wait and then I’ll get the winner,’ I say bro, it don’t work like that. What happens to f—king Umar Nurmagomedov who had the closest fight with Merab Dvalishvili? What happens if Merab loses to Petr Yan? The beef between the Russia on Russia crime. I like that stuff.”
Whether or not UFC matchmakers like it remains to be seen.
