Jake Paul on liquid diet after jaw-breaking knockout loss: ‘Lots of pain and stiffness’

Published:

Like Colby Covington before him, Jake Paul’s mouth is literally paying the price for his words.

In an appropriate bit of comeuppance, the incessant gabber suffered a broken jaw and shattered teeth after Anthony Joshua put him down for the count with a brutal right hand in the sixth round of their Netflix spectacle boxing match (highlights here). Paul avoided the kill shot for quite a while, running around the ring and shooting double leg takedowns to avoid the ferocious puncher. When he slowed down, however, there was nowhere to go, and Joshua pummeled him badly in the sixth.

It’s a credit to Paul that he never lost consciousness, but his longterm health was still affected. “The Problem Child” was sent to the hospital quickly and confirmed today that he underwent a successful jaw surgery. Unfortunately, the road to recovery is likely to be unpleasant, as Paul is on a liquid diet and reports that he’s in a “lot of pain.”

“Just got out of surgery,” Paul posted on X. “Everything went smooth. Thanks for all the love. Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days [shoutout] to the amazing team at Miami University hospital. Everyone was so gracious and caring.”

It’s going to be a while before we see Paul back in the ring. After the loss, he signaled his intention to return to Cruiserweight and is still calling out Canelo Alvarez. Given this outcome, however, I would expect Paul to take a tuneup fight or two first. As for Joshua, the former Heavyweight champion walks away fresh and hopefully ready to finally face off with Tyson Fury in 2026.
