Lawrence Okolie vs Ebenezer Tetteh – Big Fight Preview & Predictions

Published:

A full and varied card lands at Onikan Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria this Sunday, and in the main event, former world champion Lawrence Okolie takes on Ebenezer Tetteh in a scheduled heavyweight 10-rounder.

DAZN televise Okolie vs Tetteh live worldwide.

Okolie (22-1, 16 KOs) won the WBO cruiserweight world title in 2021, knocking Krzysztof Glowacki out in six rounds, and he defended three times before shipping the belt to Chris Billam-Smith in May 2023, dropping a majority verdict.

The 33-year-old resurfaced almost a year later, wiping out Lukasz Rozanski inside a round to win the WBC bridgerweight title, but he would not defend the belt, and instead moved up to heavyweight.

A one-round won against Hussein Muhamed gained ‘The Sauce’ the vacant WBC Silver title, and he defended in July, widely outscoring Kevin Lerena over 10 rounds at Wembley Stadium.

Tetteh (23-3, 20 KOs) shouldn’t pose too much of a risk for Okolie.

Every time the Ghanaian steps up, he usually suffers an early defeat.

Daniel Dubois halted Tetteh inside a round in 2019, and he is on a run of two straight losses, retiring after seven against Dillian Whyte in December 2024, before Frazer Clarke took less than two minutes to hammer the African in April.

Prediction: I can’t see Tetteh hanging around, and Okolie can take the win in the early stages of this one.

Yoka clashes with Korte

France’s former Olympic Champion, Tony Yoka (14-3, 11 KOs) heads the undercard, and he is up against Patrick Korte over a scheduled 10 rounds.

Yoka’s wheels fell off in three straight alarming defeats to Martin Bakole (MD10), Carlos Takam (SD10) and Ryad Merhy (SD10), and he’s had to rebuild at a low level since, winning his last three, the last a points win against Arslan Yallyev in Paris in May.

Korte (23-5-1, 19 KOs) has been stopped in all of his five defeats, the last a second-round loss to Nelson Hysa in June.

The 41-year-old German bounced back with a first round stoppage over Dusko Vujicic in September.

Prediction: Yoka’s rebuild has been steady, and he can take an inside-schedule win here.

Remaining Undercard

In six-rounders, Shiloh Defreitas (6-0, 3 KOs) can outscore Kabiru Salawu (7-1-2, 6 KOs) at welterweight, and lightweight prospect Basit Adebayo (9-0, 4 KOs) can score a stoppage win against Sikiru Shogbesan (23-3-1, 10 KOs).

At super lightweight, 17-year-old Raheem Animashaun (18-0, KO12) can win early against Isaac Chukwudi (5-3-1, 1 KO).

At featherweight, Elizabeth Oshoba (9-0, 5 KOs) can be a points winner against Odunayo Ayanwale (2-1, 2 KOs).

The only four-rounder is at lightweight, where Nene Joy Oyo (3-0) can take the battle of unbeatens with Sandra Darkwah Boateng (5-0, 5 KOs) on points.
