Lennox Lewis reveals Moses Itauma’s ceiling

Published:

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis believes Moses Itauma is the man to rule the division next.

Itauma has impressed Lewis throughout his 13-fight career to date.

The 21-year-old is arguably the most talked about prospect in boxing as he continues to shine in every opportunity he is given.

He was last in action in August, where he headlined for the first time in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Itauma took on seasoned veteran Dillian Whyte who was expected to pose the toughest test to date but that didn’t happen.

Whyte was stopped within two minutes of the fight after being clipped early and Itauma proved to be too much for the 37-year-old.

Lewis spoke to talkSPORT and revealed what he really thinks of the heavyweight prospect.

“Itauma is the next coming.

“We’ve got a lot of heavyweights and great fighters coming out of Britain right now. Moses is definitely one of them.”

The best fighter in the heavyweight division over the last few years has undoubtably been Oleksandr Usyk who has been dominant since his move up from cruiserweight in 2019.

Usyk has beaten some of the best in the division from Anthony Joshua to Tyson Fury twice.

The Ukrainian is a two-time undisputed heavyweight world champion, an achievement Itauma will likely look to emulate as soon as possible.

After his win against Whyte, the 21-year-old showed interest in fighting Usyk and Turki Alalshikh took to social media to reveal that he also wants to see the fight.

The fight with Usyk will have to wait with Itauma’s fight at the end of the month now scrapped after an injury picked up in camp.

While the injury sustained remains unknown, Itauma will be looking to return as soon as possible after a slow 2025 where he boxed a total of just over five minutes.

He was set to face Jermaine Franklin at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester in what would be his second headline fight.

A rescheduled date for Itauma vs Franklin has been revealed – 28th March should Itauma be fit and ready for then.
