UFC Mexico was hostile territory for Lone’er Kavanagh, but that didn’t stop him from putting on the performance of a lifetime and dealing a crushing blow to hometown favorite Brandon Moreno.
Kavanagh’s short-notice gamble paid off. A win over a former multiple-time UFC champion would be a highlight moment for most fighters in any stage of their career, but the victory has also set the rising prospect up for much bigger fights ahead now that a number lies beside his name.
The Brit had just three weeks to prepare for what was undoubtedly the biggest fight of his life, and he passed with flying colors. Not only did the 26-year-old beat a fan-favorite on home turf, but he also did it in style, securing a unanimous decision win over the veteran, with one judge crediting four of the five rounds to him.
Lone’er Kavanagh has been honing his skills as a martial artist since age 8, first introduced by his mother after navigating personal issues and the loss of his father. Having adopted many styles over his 18 years in various gyms, Kavanagh’s fluid movement and seamless striking have been a problem for those he stands across from inside the cage.

From a promising unranked flyweight to the top 10 and within touching distance of a title shot, Lone’er Kavanagh’s risk brought significant rewards. Kavanagh proclaimed that he has his eyes set on anybody the UFC wants him to face next.
