With the UFC set to premiere on Paramount/CBS on January 24, the promotion sent its strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern and featherweight contender Brian Ortega to represent the brand at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards which aired on CBS.
As the UFC’s anthem “Face The Pain” played, Dern and Ortega took the stage in full UFC fight gear, as they were announced as some “extra security” for the evening’s talent. Immediately after Dern and Ortega’s walk-off, the music shifted to Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.” Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, stars of “Heated Rivalry”, then took the stage to present the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television, which was won by Erin Doherty.
When it came to the other awards, the biopic of Mark Kerr (Smashing Machine) received two major nominations but went home empty-handed. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who played Kerr, lost the Best Actor (Drama) trophy to Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent). Meanwhile, Emily Blunt (played Kerr’s wife) was defeated in the Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture category by Teyana Taylor, who won for her role in One Battle After Another.
