Michael Morales expects JDM matchup this summer after Islam Makhachev turned down UFC 324 title fight

Published:

Michael Morales has a big fight on the horizon, but doesn’t know if his next trip to the Octagon will come against a former UFC champion or a current one.

At least Morales will bring an undefeated record into the new year.

Morales, who has amassed a perfect 19-0 record over eight years as a pro, is open to whatever the promotion throws his way. This could be a No. 1 contender’s matchup against former UFC champion Jack Della Maddalena or even a clash with current 170-pound titleholder, Islam Makhachev. Morales is just looking to keep sharpening his skills.

“UFC told me about a possible fight against Jack [Della Maddalena] for March or April,” Morales recently told ESPN Deportes. “I think they also proposed a fight with Makhachev for January, and he didn’t want to accept either. If I can get a fight against Jack, one more fight to gain experience, and if it’s with Makhachev, I’ll accept it too.”

Sounds like Morales was Makhachev’s mystery opponent for UFC 324 later this month.
