Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) is back with Episode 1 of its “Uncut” video previews, this time focusing on the upcoming women’s super fight pitting former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey against ex-Strikeforce attraction Gina Carano.
It’s a fight that could have been staged under the UFC banner; however, Dana White and Co. are no longer in the pay-per-view (PPV) business, eliminating the lucrative “points” incentive in favor of a Paramount+ subscription. Great for the fans, not-so-great for combatants (like Rousey) expecting beaucoup bucks.
The not-yet-cleared Rousey took that personally.
“The story and everything behind it is just this fight, but a lot of it is MVP vs. UFC, and that’s where I’m going to f—king go very hard in the trenches,“ Rousey said. ”They are suffering from a lack of competition and they can’t just make a class-action lawsuit every couple of years the cost of doing business. So, I’m really trying to help Dana out (laughs). And if anyone has been groomed to be his apprentice, it’s me. I think I’d be the most favorite adversary he’s ever had.“
UFC is currently in the second round of its anti-trust fight.
Rousey is a massive betting favorite for her May 16 return on Netflix, booked for Intuit Dome in Los Angeles. She also spent some time in the UFC kitchen watching how the sausage is made, one of the perks of being “good f—king friends” with White. Whether or not that intel helps her compete against the promotion remains to be seen.
No word yet on what other fights will be featured on the Rousey vs. Carano undercard, but we do know it won’t include this former UFC heavyweight.
