Roy Jones Jr reveals how far Moses Itauma can go

Published:

Roy Jones Jr has revealed how far he believes Moses Itauma can go in the sport.

Jones Jr is a former four-weight world champion and believes Itauma has everything to reach the top.

Just 13 fights into his professional career, Itauma has been brilliant so far.

He has 11 stoppage wins including wins against Mike Balogun, Mariusz Wach and Dempsey McKean.

Itauma was last in action in August where he headlined in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He stopped Dillian Whyte in the opening round in what was a career-best win.

Jones Jr spoke to Clubhouse Boxing about Itauma’s ceiling.

“He could be the next dominant force for sure, as long as he doesn’t get moved too fast.

“Sometimes we see guys who just want to throw them out there quickly.

“It all depends on their background, how they came up and whether they can take that pressure.”

Over the last decade the best heavyweight in the sport has undoubtedly been two-time undisputed champion, Oleksandr Usyk.

He has massive wins over Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua twice respectively.

Usyk has been a name paired with Itauma already despite the prospect having far less experience.

Just minutes after his win over Whyte, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority Turki Alalshikh stated Usyk vs Itauma is the fight he wants to make.

Jones Jr gave a definitive answer on how a fight between ‘The Cat’ and Itauma would play out.

“It depends on how well this guy understands the pressure, how bad he wants it.

“He can do anything he wants to do cause he has all the ability.

“There is nothing that should stop him becoming world champion unless he’s moved too fast, ’cause if you put him in with Usyk right now it’s too fast.”

The 21-year-old was set to return to the ring in just three days, against Jermaine Franklin.

The fight was postponed after Itauma tore his bicep in camp.

The rescheduled date is set for March 28.

Itauma boxed a total of just over five minutes throughout 2025 and will hope to be more active from March.
