Shakur Stevenson vs Ryan Garcia: Sebastian Fundora weighs in

Published:

Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia are undoubtedly two of the most talked-about boxers in the world. Stevenson recently delivered a dominant win against Teofimo Lopez on January 31, becoming the WBO super lightweight champion. Since then, Garcia has defeated Mario Barrios to become the WBC welterweight world champion.

A rumoured Stevenson-Garcia showdown at a catchweight has been discussed, and Sebastian Fundora has weighed in on that potential bout when speaking to Fight Hub TV.

Shakur Stevenson vs Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) has recently spoken about facing Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs), and Shakur responded via his X account:

“144 Ryan let’s do it.. I’ll be at your fight now scrub! Vada will be involved so don’t run from that,” said Stevenson.

Stevenson also recently spoke to Stephen A. Smith and was asked how he would beat Garcia:

“I think he’s very overrated. If a guy loses to Rolly that way…The way that I saw him lose to Rolly. All Rolly did was take away his left hook. That means clearly that’s all he got. He better sharpen up his weapons before he gets in the ring with me,” said Shakur.

After his win over Barrios, Garcia was asked in the ring who he wants to face next: “You know who I want. He’s right there (at ringside), Shakur Stevenson, let’s go,” said Garcia.

Stevenson vs Garcia: Sebastian Fundora has his say

When asked about the future of Ryan Garcia, Fundora said:

“It seems to be that he’s leaning towards Shakur. I think he wants to fight him at a catchweight, right? 44, or 45. I think he could win. He’s a strong guy, but this guy’s pretty smart. Shakur’s pretty smart.

“And he has the experience that this guy will lack. He’s not dancing around the belts like you said. He had the belts. He was the guy. He is the guy. So, I think that’s going to play into it. It’s not just a guy who’s gonna stand there and want to trade with him like a Barrios. No, this guy’s gonna actually box him.

“He’s going to show why he was an Olympian, why he’s a multi-division champion. And with Haney, if he fights Haney, I think that would be a good fight. We’ll see if Haney learned from the last one. I favoured Haney in the last fight, but I mean, that’s boxing, right? In boxing, things happen. And, we’ll see if that’s much of a fight, or if Ryan just goes and knocks him out.”
